CLOSE
Terms of Service
Effective 4 May 2026
1. Acceptance
By creating an account or using Close, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old and able to enter a binding agreement in your country of residence. Close is designed for use as a couple — that is, two people who choose to share a private space inside the app.
3. Your account
You may hold one account per person. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials safe and for activity that occurs under your account. If you believe your account has been used without your permission, contact us immediately.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Close to:
- break the law;
- harass, threaten, intimidate or abuse anyone, including your partner, in or through the service;
- submit content that is unlawful, hateful, defamatory, sexually explicit involving anyone other than consenting adults, or that infringes someone else’s rights;
- interfere with the service’s operation, attempt to access accounts that are not yours, or misuse our systems.
Today the content you can submit is text only (titles, prompts, notes, descriptions, letters). Photo upload is not yet available; if and when it launches, the same acceptable-use rules will apply.
5. Your content and the licence you grant us
You keep ownership of the content you create in Close — challenges, rewards, completion notes, letters, and the like. By using the service, you grant Better Together a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host and display your content only as needed to operate the service for you and the partner you have invited. We do not claim ownership of your content, and we do not publish it publicly or share it with third parties beyond the service providers listed in our Privacy Policy.
6. Service availability
Close is provided on an “as is” basis. We don’t guarantee uninterrupted availability and may need to take the service down for maintenance, fix bugs, or change features. We will try to give reasonable notice for planned changes that affect you.
7. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Account. Deletion takes effect immediately, with a 30-day window to restore by signing back in; after 30 days, deletion is permanent.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, if your account is implicated in abuse or misuse, or if we are required to by law. Where reasonable, we will tell you why.
8. Disclaimers
Close is an app for couples to play together. It is not relationship counselling, professional therapy, mental-health support, or medical advice. If you need that kind of support, please reach out to a qualified professional or service in your country.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you in connection with the service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose — for the free tier, that amount is zero.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law (for example, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Better Together against losses, claims and costs arising from your breach of these terms or your misuse of the service. We will indemnify you against losses, claims and costs arising from our gross negligence or wilful misconduct, subject to the limitation above.
11. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms from time to time. If we make a change that materially affects you, we will notify you in the app and give you 30 days’ notice before the change takes effect. If you continue using the service after that, you accept the new terms.
12. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to resolve any dispute under or in connection with these terms, except that if you are a consumer resident outside England and Wales, you may also have the right to bring a claim in the courts of your country of residence.
